Rwanda : GOETHE INSTITUTE RELEASES NEW YEAR CALENDAR

GOETHE INSTITUTE

Lovers of cultural performances, theatre and movies will have waited long enough for the Goethe German Institute to finally release their calendar for the events that will be unfolding this month of January 2013. Among them are films, live performances and other cultural festivities that will, as usual, keep them busy for most of the evenings.

Beginning next week Wednesday, the institute will be holding a performance with award-winning artist duo Gintersdorfer/Klaßen. The two make an exceptional and an exceptionally successful team: the German stage director Monika GINTERSDORFER and the visual artist Knut KLASSEN. Transcending the conventional compartementalization of the arts, their cross-over applies also to their partnerships: they work with Ivorian showbiz stars and German actors, musicians and choreographers, not taking the impact of borders too seriously. The Ivory Coast–German connection provoked daring artistic forms and content: Germans felt a breath of fresh air blow onto the cultural scene and Ivoirians found the work provocative and courageous.

Also to be anticipated this week is an exchange program with American author Alexander Yates on Wednesday 23rd which will focus primarily on the tactics that writers can use to establish, challenge and subvert the dramatic expectations of their readers. Other events to look forward to include Liliane Kamikazi’s live concert the following day on 24th Thursday, with the curtains closing on an entertaining month one week later with a lively debate on Freedom of Expression: conciliating the principle and its limitation.
